Dear Kings Way Family,

A wonderful opportunity is before us! Kings Way stands at an important crossroad in our long and prestigious history. Since the 1930s, we as a church have stood in a long line of dedicated, generous Christians who gave of themselves so that the work of God might be done through this church.

The Lord has put a fresh burden on our leadership to launch a new project designed to propel King's Way into a new season in our church's history. I want to introduce to you the [IN]VEST Project. Its sole purpose is: To [IN]VEST in the next generation by eradicating apathy, fear, and debt now. Imagine a future where our children are leading a church where believers take their serving, learning, and giving seriously. Imagine the great heights they may achieve for the Kingdom of God if we provide a healthy, spirit-filled, debt-free platform for ministry.

As a congregation we have demonstrated many times over the years how much we can accomplish when we faithfully work together to meet the needs of our community and world. As instructed in 2 Corinthians 8:12CEV, "It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have."

We are asking you to reserve time to worship and dream with us beginning Sunday, October 16. This is when we will gather together and begin to share information about the [IN]VEST project. Please mark this date on your calendar now! Worship is at 10am on Sunday. The [IN]VEST series will continue through November 6 on Sunday mornings, but this is just the beginning. The project at-large will continue through 2012 and beyond.

The question at hand is simply: Are you [IN]?

Dear Gracious and Loving God: Throughout our faith journey we have been reminded of your willingness to sacrifice all to draw us into your unconditional love. Open us to that same spirit of generosity as we prepare to consider what our gift shall be. "A few seeds make a small harvest, but a lot of seeds make a big harvest." Unite our congregation in common purpose and will, that we might be a blessing of mission and ministry in Versailles and around the world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

FAQ GivingOur church has carried debt for years. Why have we decided to address our debt now?Proverbs 22:7 says the borrower is servant to the lender. From a biblical perspective, we believe in being debt free. This will enable us to do all that God has called us to. Also, as we talked with board leadership, the finance committee, ministry department leaders, parents of children and teens, single adults, missions committees and others about their vision for the future, the response to pay off debt to secure a healthy future for next generation was overwhelming. Recent years have shown us the fragility of our economy, so we desire to be stewards prepared for days we live in. Our desire is to: Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8Is King's Way in trouble financially? Is that another reason we are addressing debt elimination?King's Way overall annual income has been $907,762, $865,136, $802,610, for 2008, 2009, 2010 respectively. We have been able to meet all of our expenses completely, but as the trend shows, we are receiving less and less income. Our staff has been and continues to be good stewards of the resources allocated for ministry. This year, as of the creation of this document, we are currently $94,277 under our projected annual income of 861,960. The main reason for eliminating debt now is to clear the path for our future.How did our church arrive at the goal of raising $1.75 million to eliminate our debt?King's Way's current debt is approximately $1.67 million. An additional $80,000 would allow our church to establish a one-month buffer, update aging heating and air conditioning systems, replace malfunctioning projectors, and reseal our parking lot. Taking care of the facilities we have not only demonstrates good stewardship, but it also impacts future growth of the church's membership, missions and evangelism. Although $1.75 million is a lot of money and we will all have to sacrifice to get there, it needs to be considered with the perspective that the sum saved over the next 24-32 months will be 2 to 3 times more than our annual budget.What does this debt represent?The combined $1.675 million loan balance is from our remaining mortgage for the building of the 2002/3 addition, and a second mortgage from the fit-up costs for furniture, sound and lighting, the pavilion, signs, and rear parking lot. Will any money in this years budget earmarked for ministry be moved toward debt elimination?No, because payment of the current loan balance is already built into our operational budgetevery year. Paying down the note early with funds raised through this debt elimination project allows us to free up debt service dollars (interest) that could be helping expand King's Way ministry in the community.How much is our debt costing us?Every single month, we pay $15,080 toward our remaining balance of $1.675 million. Over the course of 20 years, we will have paid $1.38 million in interest. The $180,000 dollars we are paying annually could go a long way in funding expanded ministry.Will the 2012 budget take into account any reduced debt?Since commitments for our [IN]VEST campaign will be paid over 2-3 years, we will continue to budget nearly $180,000 for debt service in 2012. Even if we prepay any of the principal, scheduled payments would not change until the debt is paid in full.As prudent stewards of resources God has entrusted us with, will we borrow money in the future?It is the leadership teams desire to operate our current and future ministries with funds that have been raised in hand. That means it is our desire to not have to borrow from anyone for the building of the Kingdom of God. God has promised to meet all of our needs, (Phil 4:19) so we will stand and trust God to do just that. We encourage everyone in our congregation to do everything in their power to live within their means, and in so doing be able to be used by God to bless others. What if we don't raise $1.75 million?Although the goal is to eliminate debt, any reduction in our loan will be a success and move us closer to our ultimate goal of debt free ministry.I'm worried about my own debt reduction! Why are we doing this now?Our church has always met financial challenges head on, using them as a way to trust God and express our faith in His plan for us as a church and individuals. If you have a renewed passion about your own debt, then good for you! This is a great time for you personally to make sacrifices in your own personal finances. Its not about equal giving, its about equal sacrifice. It's important to remember that giving is important, even when you are in need. God will meet our needs when we help meet the needs of others.If I have only a certain amount to give, how do I choose between tithing and the debt elimination project?Your tithe should come first. The bottom line is that in order to operate, our church needs the financial support of every member through the faithful giving of your tithe. Those who aren't able to pledge a specific amount to the [IN]VEST project can consider other options; a one-time gift or a pledge to give when circumstances, such unemployment or college tuition obligations, change. Everyone can give something.
